Great American Beer Festival Bling

Posted by Erin  Published in Announcements, Awards, Events Permalinks

The People’s Republic of Flying Dog is now in session. It’s happy hour at Flying Dog Brewery, so here is your latest dose of irreverence.Pedal to the MedalsThe Great American Beer Festival is once again an image in the rear-view mirror, and only the regrets of post-Festival indiscretions and the stench of beer-soaked clothing remain. Flying Dog once again claimed its spot among the elite breweries, taking home two medals. Dogtoberfest won Gold for German-Style Märzen and Old Scratch furthered its legacy as one of the best beers on the planet by winning Silver for American-Style Amber Lager. This raises Old Scratch’s tally to 4 GABF medals and 2 World Beer Cup medals in the past 5 years. There are few (if any) beers out there that can claim that kind of supremacy, so go to your local booze emporium and pick up a 6-pack, case (or better yet, a keg) of these delicious brews.

Stuff You Should Have Been At We are releasing two new videos this week for your viewing pleasure.

The first video is the event footage from GonzoFest on September 13th. GonzoFest hosted more than 2000 rabid Flying Dog fanatics, and we just wanted to show everyone what they missed so they will block out their September calendar next year; we can guarantee it was a lot more fun than whatever you were doing that weekend. Click on the image to the left to view.

The second video is our first from GABF last weekend in Denver, CO. For those of you who have never been to the GABF, shame on you. The GABF is the biggest beer festival in the country and feels like a mix between a flea market, with all the vendors pimping beer, and a college football game where everyone is partying like they are 21. This is one of the many characters we ran into that make the GABF a brilliant event. Personally, I’m laughing with him but you may not share my sentiments. Stay tuned for more video from GABF, and also some great footage from our FBAG party, where close to 700 people showed up. Click on the image to the left to view. After The Party It’s The After PartyJoin the Flying Dog crew on Saturday, October 25th, as we roll our Flying Dog RV up to Hagerstown, MD for live music, beer and good times. Downtown Live is an all-day music event where you can’t drink Flying Dog Beer, because a very large beer company that will remain nameless can write a bigger sponsorship check than we can. However, once you are done partying at Downtown Live you can meet us for the real party as we team with Duffy’s to bring you the Downtown Live after party. We will be giving away beer and gear starting at 8pm.Flying Dog Costume Contest We here at Flying Dog believe Halloween should be a national holiday. When else can adults play dress-up and do regrettable things under a disguise of a mask and feel perfectly normal? To celebrate, Flying Dog is having a bar crawl in downtown Frederick, Maryland where we will be awarding the winners of the Flying Dog costume contests $75 bar tabs at four participating bars. Please join us in the festivities and come dressed to win. Below is the complete schedule:

Canal’s 10pm
Guido’s 11pm
Patrick’s 11pm
Bentz St. 12pm

GonzoFest: It’s not just for breakfast anymore.

Posted by Erin  Published in Announcements, Events, Promotions Permalinks

The People’s Republic of Flying Dog is now in session. It’s happy hour at Flying Dog Brewery, so here is your latest dose of irreverence.GonzoFest: The Real National ConventionThe moment is finally upon us. Arriving with more fanfare and anticipation than the Republican and Democratic National Conventions combined, GonzoFest will be an event short on hype and long on satisfaction. Join us for GonzoFest September 13th at the Flying Dog Brewery in Frederick, MD from 3pm-9pm for our annual throwdown - the People’s Republic of Flying Dog delegation welcomes all members. We will be hosting the Hard Times Cafe Chili Cook-Off, plus there will be live music and everyone will be participating in grandiose revelry.

We hope you all will join the Flying Dog Crew in celebration as we raise money for the Heartly House. We imagine that protesting will be at an all-time low during our convention. For full event details visit the Flying Dog homepage.

Photos From The UnderbellySeeing it is convention, season I want to stay on that theme for just a minute. We ran across this great blog, aptly named, Fear and Loathing - 2008 Conventions. This photoblog chronicles the Democratic and Republican National Conventions from a behind-the-scenes look that is often passed over by the mainstream media. Whatever your political views are, these are some powerful photos that give a unique view of a political scene you don’t see on the major networks. We know Hunter would be proud. View all the photos here.
Drop Us A LineWhile surfing on his iPhone that he spent 6 hours waiting in line to buy, Flying Dog’s Prime Minister of Marketing Neal Stewart came across this great website called SuggestionBox. I can’t say much about how he chooses to spend 6 hours of his time, but the website is pretty useful. You can log on at any time and send us a suggestion on any topic from packaging and events to beer styles and distribution. To make a suggestion, follow this link.
Some Things Continue To Amaze On September 23rd, we held a fundraiser for one of Flying Dog’s most cherished employees, Mike Freeman. I have covered several of our fundraising efforts in the newsletter over the past months and just wanted to report back that, to date, we have raised almost $30,000 for Mike’s fight against Brain Cancer. We want to thank everyone for their generosity and compassion and we hope that you continue to support others in their times of need. If you are interested in learning more about Mike’s fight visit www.mikesupport.com.

    Support Your Local Brewery

Posted by Erin  Published in Announcements, Events Permalinks

The People’s Republic of Flying Dog is now in session. It’s happy hour at Flying Dog Brewery, so here is your latest dose of irreverence.Support Your Local Brewery
We here at Flying Dog love everyone drinking our award winning litter of ales but we also aren’t Beer-ophobes(TM). When 97% of beer in this country is made by 3% of the breweries and 97% of the breweries make 3% of the beer, we have to band together and rise up. The Brewers Association has launched a new website to help beer lovers do just that, SupportYourLocalBrewery.org. Become a Beer Activist by searching for information on your local brewery and state issues that impact their business. Just remember, when you’re done supporting your local brewery, drink Flying Dog.GonzoFest - Beer and Loathing in Frederick, MD
GonzoFest is Flying Dog’s annual throwdown, an event of such epic proportions that if you miss out, you’ll be in a state of self-loathing for months. This year, in conjunction with GonzoFest, we will be hosting the Hard Times Cafe Chili Cookoff (for the 2008 Maryland State Championship). Come meet the Flying Dog Crew and enjoy beer, music, tours, chili samples - as well as all-around good karma, as a portion of the proceeds benefit the Heartly House. On Saturday, September 13th from 3-9pm we will be administering lessons in Fear and Loathing, Flying Dog style. Click here for more details about GonzoFest.

Food and Beer Night - Beer and Chocolate
For those of you who missed our last Food and Beer night at the Brewery, here is your chance to catch Session 2: Beer and Chocolate. Randy Olmstead, owner and chef at The Perfect Truffle, will be co-hosting the event as he joins the Flying Dog team for a night of beer with a perfectly matched sugar buzz. Come and be educated as we once again prove that beer is food’s favorite companion. Room for this August 7th event is limited to the first 50 guests and will fill up quickly. Click here for the menu and RSVP information.
