The People’s Republic of Flying Dog is now in session. It’s happy hour at Flying Dog Brewery, so here is your latest dose of irreverence.GonzoFest - Surreal Beertopia
This segment was in the last newsletter but I’m going to keep reminding everyone about GonzoFest until it happens because it will quite possibly be the greatest beer event to ever grace Earth or at least Wedgewood Blvd. This year, in conjunction with GonzoFest, we will be hosting the Hard Times Cafe Chili Cookoff (for the 2008 Maryland State Championship). Come meet the Flying Dog Crew and enjoy beer, music, tours, chili samples - as well as all-around good karma, as a portion of the proceeds benefit the Heartly House. On Saturday, September 13th from 3-9pm we will be administering lessons in Fear and Loathing, Flying Dog style. Click here for more details about GonzoFest.
Flying Dog Poet Laureate Contest
It is well known that Flying Dog often uses the line ‘Good People Drink Good Beer” which came from a great poem that Hunter Thompson wrote for Flying Dog founder George Stranahan. The poem in its entirety is far less recognized, but I figured it is time to change that.
“There is an ancient Celtic axiom that says ‘Good people drink good beer.’ Which is true, then as now. Just look around you in any public bar-room, and you will quickly see: Bad People drink bad beer. Think about it.” -Hunter S Thompson
We already know that you are no Hunter S. Thompson, but we are sure you have hidden writing talents of your own stuffed somewhere behind the wall of your cubical. Flying Dog is holding a beer poetry contest to honor Dr. Gonzo’s words of wisdom. Should you win, we will send you this Ralph Steadman signed skateboard, a Gonzo T-shirt, a Flying Dog Flag and some other sweet Flying Dog swag. The contest winner will be announced in the September 23rd newsletter. Please submit your entries to bullshit@flyingdogales.com and should Ralph Steadman indulge us we will let him pick our winner. Check out the contest page for additional information.Rock The Mike
As you have most likely read in a previous newsletter, Mike Freeman, a member of the Flying Dog family, has been diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme. This very aggresive form of brain cancer is similar to what Ted Kennedy has. We here at Flying Dog have decided there is no better way to honor and help a punk rocker like Mike than to throw him a huge benefit concert. So come to the warehouse at 2401 Blake St. in Denver, donate your $20 and drink, eat and rock the night away for a good cause. 100% of the proceeds are donated to help offset Mike’s medical expenses and we even made an official non profit for him. Click on the image to the left for details or visit www.MikeSupport.com to donate.
