The People’s Republic of Flying Dog is now in session. It’s happy hour at Flying Dog Brewery, so here is your latest dose of irreverence.Old Scratch Wins Bronze
With another Great American Beer Festival (GABF) in the books, Old Scratch has once again added to its trophy case. Old Scratch, our most award winning beer, now boasts 2 GABF Gold Medals - one Bronze, a World Beer Cup Silver Medal and a couple international awards; all in the past 3 years. Let’s hope Old Scratch can avoid the steroid scandals that have recently caused other world-class performers to be stripped of their hardware.
Some of you out there in the People’s Republic might be asking, “One medal? Who’s judging this competition?” We prefer to look at the glass half full. There were over 2700 beers judged and many breweries walked away empty handed. Besides, we would rather impress all of the Citizen’s of the Republic than some snooty beer judge with a “Million Dollar Palate”.
Great American Beer Festival Videos
For all you members of the People’s Republic who wanted to come to the GABF festivities but made up some lame excuse to prevent yourselves from having the time of your life: We say shame on you! Luckily, we were kind enough record a bunch of the action, so pull up a chair and a six-pack and have your own GABF party in the safety of your own home. Click on the image to the left to check out the video footage of the GABF, our Zombie Dance Party, as well as the Wild Dog Release Party.
Additionally, Justin Davis from the podcast Davis On Draft came and did a live taping at our Wild Dog Release Party, complete with an interview with our Head Brewer, Matt Brophy. He leads up to the interview by sampling and describing some of the specialty beers we had available. Click here to listen to the podcast.
Till next time, cheers
Chris

Dad, I’ve heard your stories, and mostly more than once. And you showed me
the medals and the expert rifleman pin, you know I love you and am
proud of you. I know you were in the army; and I understand that was a
big deal for you and that you need to retell the stories. Let me be
clear about what I hate; I hate war. You went to war, your granddaddy
went to war, and endless great great granddaddies back to the beginning
of time went to war. You all together have built a world where I too
will have to go to war, and I hate you all for this.
When you glorify and make heroes of warriors, you will have warriors until the end of time.
“Only the dead have seen the end of war.” George Santayana

In the words of Eric Bogle, an Australiam songwriter, reflecting on the grave of a young man killed in 1917 in the fields of flanders.
And I can’t help but wonder no Willie McBride
All those who lie here do they know why they died
Did you really believe them when they told you “The Cause”
Did you really believe that this war would end wars.
Well the suffering the sorrow the glory the shame
The killing the dying it was all done in vain
For Willie McBride its all happened again
And again and again and again and again
